The Last Twins

Event Date:
January 27, 2026

A documentary premiere brings a little-known story of moral courage during the Holocaust into focus through firsthand testimony and historical record. Centered on acts of protection and quiet resistance inside Auschwitz, the film examines how individual choices could preserve humanity under unimaginable conditions.

The Last Twins chronicles the true story of Erno “Zvi” Spiegel, a Hungarian Jewish prisoner assigned to oversee a group of twin boys targeted for Nazi medical experiments. Unable to stop the violence around him, Spiegel used ingenuity and compassion to safeguard the children’s dignity, sharing food, offering care and creating moments of normalcy amid terror. The film weaves survivor accounts, rare archival footage and reflections from Spiegel’s daughter, Judith Richter, to illuminate the lasting impact of his actions. Narration by Tony Award-winning actor Liev Schreiber underscores the film’s measured, reflective tone. Directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Perri Peltz and Matthew O’Neill, the documentary is presented as the Southeast U.S. premiere.

The screening takes place Tuesday, January 27 at O Cinema South Beach on Miami Beach as part of the Miami Jewish Film Festival. Hosted by The Steven J. Green School of International and Public Affairs, the event includes an introduction and post-film conversation with Judith Richter, daughter of Erno “Zvi” Spiegel.
